Downtown Construction Updates

Construction projects continue in and around the Downtown Library! Learn more and plan ahead for a smooth visit.

Construction projects are underway to bring the building into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as well as to address some of the building's maintenance needs. These investments ensure the Library is accessible and inviting to all! Please follow all guidance or warnings on site to ensure everyone's safety.

The 3rd floor restrooms are currently closed for construction. There are temporary walls sealing off the area. Public restrooms can still be accessed on the 1st and 2nd floors during the closure.

We are excited to announce that our parking lot repair project is officially complete! The lot has been resurfaced and potholes patched, providing a smooth and clean experience for all. Freshly painted lines enhance visibility, ensuring a safer and more organized parking area.

Throughout the project, we worked in phases to keep 2/3 of the parking lot open at all times, minimizing disruptions. We appreciate your understanding during this period and your flexibility in using alternative parking options and transportation methods.

Highlights:

  • Smooth, Resurfaced Parking Lot
  • Improved Visibility with New Line Painting
  • Enhanced Safety and Accessibility

The temporary closure of the outdoor book drop bins is over, and all services have resumed as normal. The book drop near the main entrance remains open 24/7 for your convenience.

Thank you for being a valued member of our Boise Public Library community!

Projects happening around the library are impacting road and parking access in surrounding areas.

Wassmuth Center for Human Rights Education Center. Construction will continue through spring and into summer of 2024. There will be curb and sidewalk, plus pavement patch work occurring at the end of 8th street between the Wassmuth Center and Library entry drive / Greenbelt / Ann Frank Memorial starting July 8th and wrapping up near the end of July. This will reroute pedestrians and the traffic pattern on 8th street but will not reduce parking spaces on Library property. Learn more about the Wassmuth Center.

Ada County Highway District (ACHD) has several projects planned for Capitol Blvd. View one of their current concepts. Review additional updates on ACHD's website.

The Fulton Street improvements project will provide a variety of amenities and upgrades to benefit the downtown community. This project focuses on streetscape enhancements along the section between 9th Street and Capitol Boulevard, bringing about notable improvements to the area. Parking access has largely returned as the project nears its final stages. Learn more about this project from CCDC Boise.

With construction projects happening both inside and outside of the Downtown Library, please make sure to plan your trip accordingly:

  • Leave extra time to find parking and navigate closed roadways.
  • Walk, bike, or use alternative transportation if possible.
  • Consider picking up your holds at one of our neighborhood branch locations.
  • See if you qualify to access our Home-based Services.
