City of Boise Seeking Library Board of Trustees Applicants
April 2, 2025 10:00 AM

BOISE - The City of Boise is seeking applicants interested in serving on the Boise Public Library’s board of trustees. From its start with a public reading room at City Hall in 1895, the Boise Public Library has grown into an essential community asset. In addition to the Downtown Library, the Library has four branch locations which serve Boise’s neighborhoods. The Library is a department of the City of Boise.
Interested applicants must be residents of the City of Boise, have the ability to meet monthly, and be willing to serve a five-year term. Meetings are typically held the second Wednesday of the month, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Downtown Library. Library board of trustee meetings are also streamed and posted on the City of Boise’s YouTube channel. Residents can apply now by sending a cover letter and resume to commissionapplications@cityofboise.org. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
Per state statute, the trustees govern the Library and ensure it serves its mission to provide access and opportunity for everyone by connecting people to ideas, information and community. Trustees uphold the Library’s values and commitments to provide information, services and programs that are free and open to all; to create respectful, safe and inspiring spaces for the entire community; to uphold the right to privacy and the freedom to read, seek and hold different points of view, and to adapt to emerging needs in our community.
With five voting members, the board represents the diverse spectrum of users who enjoy all that Boise has to offer. Geographic diversity, as well as expertise and experience in areas relevant to the board’s purpose, will be considered in the appointment process. Trustees are selected by the mayor and confirmed by the city council.
