Boise Comic Arts Festival: A Weekend of Comics, Creativity and Community
August 21, 2024 12:59 PM
The highly anticipated Boise Comic Arts Festival (BCAF) is returning this weekend, August 24-25, at the Boise Centre. Hosted by the Boise Public Library, this year's festival promises to be bigger and better than ever, offering a packed weekend filled with comic art, creativity, and all-ages community fun. Admission is free and open to the public!
Discover the World of Comics and Art
BCAF 2024 is a celebration of all things comic arts, bringing together a diverse lineup of renowned comic book artists, illustrators, writers, and publishers. Whether you're a lifelong fan or new to the world of comics, this event offers something for everyone. Attendees can expect an exciting array of activities, including artist panels, hands-on workshops, portfolio reviews, and cosplay contests. This year marks the return of a two-day Artists’ Alley (Saturday and Sunday) showcasing over 100 guest creators, vendors, and exhibitors. Registration for cosplay contests, table-top gaming, and portfolio reviews are now open.
Meet Your Favorite Artists and Creators
This year's festival will feature special guest appearances by some of the most influential figures in the comic arts industry. Fans will have the opportunity to meet their favorite artists, get autographs, and participate in interactive discussions about the creative process behind some of the most beloved comic book characters and stories. Strawberry Shortcake creator, Muriel Fahrion, returns as a fan favorite from last year. Veteran Editor, Jamie S. Rich, joins us after recent big announcement and move to Boise. And the award-winning creator, Andy Runton, brings his kind-hearted, adventure-seeking character “Owly” to Boise.
Fun for All Ages
BCAF is a family-friendly event, making it the perfect outing for attendees of all ages. From cosplay contests to interactive exhibits, a dedicated Teen Space and Kids’ Corner, the festival offers a variety of activities designed to engage and entertain everyone. Kids can enjoy special programming just for them, while adults can dive deep into the art and culture of comics.
Engage with the Community
More than just a convention, BCAF is a community celebration. The festival is an opportunity for Boise’s creative community to come together, share their passion for comics, and inspire the next generation of artists and storytellers. Local vendors and exhibitors will be on hand, offering a wide range of comics, art, and collectibles.
Behind the Scenes
In addition to the excitement of the two-day convention, BCAF is dedicated to promoting literacy and community engagement. On the Friday before the main event, guest creators participate in Librarians and Educators Day, a professional development opportunity for local teachers. This special day is designed to help educators incorporate comics and graphic novels into their classrooms, with a continuing education credit available through Northwest Nazarene University.
Guest creators also visit local elementary, middle, and high schools, joining art and English classes to inspire students with their expertise and creativity. These visits are an extension of BCAF’s mission to bring people of all ages together, fostering a sense of community and encouraging a love for reading and the arts.
