Library Construction Updates
Welcome to the Boise Public Library’s Construction web page, a way for us to keep you informed of the exciting updates we are making to the first floor of the Downtown Library. We are excited about the improvements we will be bringing to you, our community, expanding access and opportunities for all! Check back frequently as we will be updating this web page as plans progress.
Downtown First Floor Renovation Project Status
The Downtown Library will reopen to the public on all three floors on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m.! To prepare for the reopening, the entire Downtown Library will be closed beginning Saturday, Dec. 5, through Friday, Dec. 11. The Library board of trustees approved the closure at its Oct. 14 board meeting. The four other Boise Public Library branch locations will also have a late start at noon on Friday, Dec. 11.
During the closure period:
- Materials can be returned to the Downtown Library using the curbside return bins or the walk-up return slots
- Existing holds can be picked up at the Downtown Library using the curbside service
- New holds will not be accepted at the Downtown Library location. Library users can either request holds to be picked up from one of the other four Boise Public Library locations or wait until the Downtown Library reopens on Saturday, Dec. 12.

Downtown Library Closure
The closure is part of an exciting renovation of the entire first floor of the Downtown Library, which began in September 2025. The changes will not only improve accessibility for Library users, but it will also allow us to make needed maintenance updates. The new space will also be a much more modern, flexible, and welcoming space to better serve our community, especially youth and families, who make up a significant portion of the Library’s daily users.
