Request an Item

Looking for something that's not currently in our catalog? Let us know!

Coming Changes

  • Starting May 16, all requests (excepting microfilm) will be evaluated as possible additions to Boise Public Library’s collection.
    • Acquisitions staff will give primary consideration to materials that are recently published, might have a broader community appeal, and/or may fill a gap within the collection.
  • Boise Public Library will no longer use Interlibrary Loan (ILL) to fill requests for materials other than microfilm.
  • If a requested item (other than microfilm) isn’t available for purchase, or does not meet the library’s selection criteria, the request won’t be filled.

If you have questions about why Boise Public Library is making this change, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions section.  You are also welcome to learn more by reading the report to the Library Board of Trustees, which can be found on page 38 of the April 9, 2025 agenda.  To see the Library Board of Trustees discussion and vote on the change to the policy, you can watch the meeting – the discussion starts at the 22:20 minute marks.

About Your Request

Please keep in mind -

  • Requests are limited to Boise Public Library cardholders. If you have a card from another Lynx Consortium library, please direct your request to your home library. Or if you are a Boise resident, sign up for a library card.
  • Due to the high volume of requests, cardholders are limited to one request per week. Our request cycle runs from Saturday to Friday.
  • Not all requests can be fulfilled. Please refer to the Request an Item Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for common reasons why this may be the case.
  • There's no need to request newly published popular/bestselling items; they're ordered automatically, and they appear in the catalog approximately one month before the publication date. Please keep an eye on the catalog to add your name to the holds list.
